Canine Influenza, or “Dog Flu” is a newly emerging infectious disease caused by a “flu” virus. In dogs, a highly contagious strain of the influenza A virus known as H3N8 is able to cause respiratory illness. Other strains of the influenza A virus are responsible for causing infections in birds, horses, pigs, and people.
Fortunately, there is a new vaccine that helps your pet stay healthy if exposed to this virus. In keeping with the tradition of providing the best medical care possible, Midway is proud to offer this vaccines to those dogs at risk. The vaccine is a simple under-the-skin vaccine given in a series of 2 shots, 3 weeks apart.
While we do not require this vaccine for all canines, it is highly recommended for those pets who are considered to be at risk. This includes animals who stay in boarding kennels, spend time at the groomer’s, attend obedience classes, or any other activity where they are around other dogs.
Midway is currently offering this vaccine at a discounted package rate. The cost per vaccine is $20.50, or purchase both vaccines for $35.00. Pets up to date on all other vaccines will not be charged an office visit, or require an examination for the shot. An appointment is not required for Canine Influenza Vaccine inoculations, but it is recommended that you call ahead so we can have your medical records ready prior to your arrival.
If there is potential for your dog to be exposed to Canine Influenza Virus, we hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to keep them protected!
