Historically, the main method we had for helping animals lose weight was diet and exercise. Unfortunately, studies show that this classic plan is only effective about 8% of the time. Fortunately, a new product is on the market to help dogs lose weight. Leading human and pet drug manufacturer Pfizer has developed the first FDA approved medication for canine weight loss, called Slentrol. Basically, Slentrol helps pets lose weight by decreasing the absorption of certain food particles into the bloodstream from the intestines, and also decreasing the hunger center in the brain, helping animals be satisfied with less food.
